The Iceberg That Is Anxiety

Have you ever pondered the origins of icebergs. They sit in vast oceans; just a large mass of clumped together ice. The pieces of glaciers break off from various places, and some how, they all in up together in this one spot in the middle of no where? Ice melting in a normal process, and small chunks of ice can be easily plowed over. But then there are large accumulations that pose a threat and cannot be ignored. This analogy describes general anxiety disorder (GAD). It is a real thing which refuses to be ignored without dire consequences.

Medically Speaking….

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety is defined simply as having more days of constant worry that without. That’s it. While it is normal to worry, one should never go days of excesses torture such as constant worry. With that said, if you notice this in yourself don’t delay in talking to someone about it.

What causes worry to tip the line between average and over the top? Some of us are predisposed to it through genetics. Our circumstances and environment can also plunge us into this debilitating state, especially if one is in said stressful for an extended period of time. In some cases, the two mix together into a perfect storm, which like a changing climate, you have causes and effect.

So How Do We Handle What We Don’t Fully Understand?

Just as it takes a crew to steer a ship clear of an iceberg, same is true of approaching anxiety. Talk to a friend, see a doctor, start medication, journal; there are many different ways. But, one thing that is 100%, you can’t go it alone. Take the first step to facing the monster in the vast ocean of life, then take it 1% at a time.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO SINK!

Why You Can’t Get Rid of Your Anxiety

Ever wonder why no matter how hard you try to empty your mind of all anxious thought you just can’t? It seems anxiety is just a part of human nature, something that we just can’t tame. If your reading this post, chances are you’ve typed the title of this post into your google search bar a time or two and still can’t make any sense of it. You’ve probably tried every suggestion our there to no avail. Let me explain why I believe that to be.

Just Think About It…..

It may take some stretch of imagination, but ponder this. You may or may not be a christian, but as much as any other ideas out there about the reason for things in this world, I think the story of Adam and Eve at least deserves a look. After all, I like to think if you have anxiety you are probably pretty good at “thinking”. Most people believe we come from somewhere or something and that we all have an origin story. To me, the story of Adam and Eve in Genesis makes the most sense.

Short story, the mother of humanity (created by God) had a tragic fall (pride and the need to exercise autonomy) and now all the Earth is cursed. There is so much more to this and I encourage all to either read it just once; many even for the thousandth time. God speaks to me about my confusion more and more each time I read even just the first three chapters.

Here’s The Bright Side…

When we feel like the bottom is falling out from beneath us just stop and think, then, relate to all those you read about in the good book. We’re not all too different from them. Find piece of mind in the fact that you know have some answers. And after reading Genesis, read on; these stories of old can bring us so much relief. The Lord said “come to me all that are weary and I will give you rest….take my yoke upon you for my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28,30). We loves us and he hurts for us; we are not alone. He’s been with us since the begin and he is coming back to do away with anxiety for good!
